We met gorgeous Lemon in the summer of 2017. She had hot spots, hair loss and dry flaky skin. We started Lemon on Real Food For Dogs and a few months later her improvement was remarkable. Thank you Marcel and Liz for sharing your fur baby story and trusting us with her nutrition.
"Lemon is a one-year old Boston Terrier. She is full of energy and loves to play. Her favorite activity is playing fetch at the dog park. Although she is very energetic, she is also very smart and loves to learn new tricks! She can sit, shake, stay, beg, lay down, and roll over.
We got Lemon was she was 6 weeks old and fell in love with her immediately. She has brought so much joy to our lives and we can’t imagine our life without her. We got her a month before we got married, so she is very much a part of our family.
We love her because she is always excited to see us when we get home, she loves to snuggle, and she is always up for a road trip. She loves showing off her travels and adventures on her Instagram @lemonthebostonterrier.
Lemon’s allergies started right around the time she was 6 months old. We lived in TN at the time, and if we would take her outside for a 2-minute potty break or an hour at the dog park, she would break out on her belly, ears, face, and back with red bumps. She would scratch and itch non-stop, creating scabs.
It was heart breaking to see our beautiful puppy with these bumps and scabs. She seemed to get no relief. That’s when we started to research allergies specific to her breed and we came across a lot of people talking about the food they fed their dogs.
We had fed Lemon “Blue Wilderness” since we got her. From the reading we had been doing, a lot of owners said a vegetarian diet helped their dog’s allergies. At this point, we were willing to try anything.
We started feeding Lemon a vegetarian diet from “Natural Balance” right around the time we moved to Dallas in June of 2017. This seemed to help a little, but Lemon would still have really bad outbreaks and would often need a round of medicine from the vet. The medicine helps clear up her breakouts, but within three weeks, we are right back where we started.
This condition made it very hard for Lemon to relax. She constantly was scratching and opening up her scabs. It also made it hard for us to see her so uncomfortable and to get her stop scratching. We spent a lot of time and money on vet visits, different food diets, and different shampoos. Although she was still the energetic dog who loves to play fetch at the dog park, her quality of life was being greatly affected.
We discovered “Real Food for Dogs” at the Dallas Farmers Market the summer after we moved to Dallas (2017). One of our favorite things about Dallas is the Farmers Market and all of the new, interesting people you can meet there. We are so blessed to have found “Real Food for Dogs” there and appreciate the time they spent with us figuring out the best food plan for Lemon!
This new food plan has changed Lemon’s life. Not only has it helped with her breakouts, her coat has become thicker and shinier, and she has put on healthy dog weight.
Her quality of life has increased because she can finally relax at home and not scratch 24/7, and she gets to spend more time outside playing since we now have a grip on her allergy issues. She is still allergic to non-food related things, but her immune system is stronger now thanks to her diet.
Lemon LOVES “Real Food for Dogs”. She gets very excited when we say, “Are you hungry? Do you want your dinner?” She has become accustomed to the feeding times and begs us 5 minutes before it’s time. It really is comical.
What we love about “Real Food for Dogs” is we know exactly what is in the food we are feeding her. We love that the company spends time checking in on Lemon, asks what she likes and what she doesn’t like, is very accommodating on food pick up times, and the fact that they truly want what is in the best interest of our fur baby.
We would highly recommend “Real Food for Dogs” to anyone. Even if your dog does not suffer from allergies, the quality of the food and the people who work there are top of the line. It has increased the quality of life for our dog and we believe it will increase her life expectancy. Aside from all of the health aspects this food brings, the excitement on Lemon’s face when she hears the tub opening is priceless".
